A few months ago, Google updated its search engine to what’s called Pigeon. This new algorithm did impact local search results rankings. So, you might have noticed an increase or a decrease in your website ranking. Two types of business have been impacted: companies that have a specific location like hotels, restaurant, doctors, dentists, shops etc, and companies that provide services to you like plumbers, delivery, etc. This is why it is very important to get your site “Pigeon” ready.
Today when you do a search on Google, you can see 3 types of results: Paid results(Google Adwords), organic results and local results.
Users don’t even have to specify a location anymore, Google interpret the intent. So what can you do?
First thing is to get an audit. An audit will tell you what’s “wrong” with your site, especially if you are a local business and you saw a decrease in your ranking lately or if you just want to increase your ranking in the future. But why should you do it?
If Google updated its algorithm, there’s got to be a reason right? Searches with local intent are more likely to lead to store visits and sales within a day. New Google research says that 50 percent of mobile users are most likely to visit after conducting a local search, while 34 percent of consumers on tablets or computers will go to a store. And Google says these people are ready to buy once they are in a store, as 18 percent of local searches lead to sales, compared to 7 percent for non-local searches.
So don’t wait! Get your site audited and get to work. That could make a HUGE difference in your business.
